UK in flames!....

So rioting and break down of law and order in England... Havent we seen this somewhere before?? We are in the Uk now. This morning my husband received a text message from a colleague in Kenya asking if he is alright? Ha ha. How quickly the tables turn. Judging by the Nation Media sms-es we keep getting, the Kenya press are all over the story!

I'm wondering when we are going to see BBC reporters Orla Guerlin, Lise Ducet or Dan Brown reporting from the ravaged centre of Croydon, Clapham or Manchester?

Hope you and the family are OK in the UK.
I have my extended family, and plenty of friends, all from Kenya, (Kenyan Asians, in the parlance of days gone by) all over London. I live in New York. I called one of them in North London, where there had been quite a bit of rioting, he said it reminded him of the riots in Nairobi in August 82, which I had witnessed as well. Ironical.
I hope things calm down soon.

  5. Pole that the riots happened just when you went back home. Hope your people are not affected.

I saw a brilliant satirical piece dealing with the current riots. Hope it doesn't offend too much.

It would actually be from the ravaged centre of battersea...clapham junction is in battersea and there haven't been any riots in clapham(sorry, it's been bothering me all week).

  8. I expected riots in the UK at some point, but these ones were shocking!

  9. I followed it live, blow by blow, burn by burn, loot by loot, on the BBC and in the Guardian. I thought I would let the ashes settle before I blogged about it. So I posted today. It was all pretty dramatic (and more than a little disturbing)!

hi, need a lil' help here. Do you know and if so, how do you rate it? Can't find their website and I'm desparate to get an opinion from someone who's been in Kenya for quite a while. We moving to Kenya soon from UK and are looking at staying in Athi River, and are trying to get a school for our 6 year old boy.
    Thanking you,
    Glo

How are the Kenyan courts dealing with the complaints of the Kenyan idp's since your problems in 2007? Have the Kenyan courts also been sitting through the nights to deal with the thugs?

  16. considering creepy loonies such as the guy above, i could hazard a guess as to the reasons for your extended hiatus from posting. i could be wrong of course but if it is a reason, it's a shame for some of us who genuinely enjoy your blog. i started reading you, immediately after the 2007 chaos, while living in the UK. i've been back one year now and i still read you for unique insights about nairobi and kenya. i admit i get a tard disappointed everytime i find it's still 'uk in flames' lol. i should get a life. but i'm sure i'm not alone

hope you're ok and will resume blogging again soon.

i thought the "creepy loony" asked a pertinent question. she/he gave an interesting perspective to the story.
