Africa expat wives club forum

This blog is all too one sided. In light of the fact that I am so useless at replying to comments and passing on information, I feel it is high time to set up an Africa Expat Wives Club forum. I am getting tired of the sound of my own voice (though not planning to give up the blog).

  • A forum would mean that readers can exchange information and chat. Readers might be planning to move here (i.e. to East Africa or Kenya) from overseas - desperately looking for help on cost of living, food, accomodation, schools, doctors, jobs - you name it.

  • You might just be thinking of holidaying or travelling in East Africa and looking for tips?

  • Desperate expat housewives all around the world might want to share stories about living overseas - a fish out of water. New arrivals here might want to ask about how to handle malarial mosquitos or control sugar ants.

  • I get lots of comments from Kenyans currently living overseas who read this blog in order to keep up with what's going 'back home', albeit from a slightly skewed expat housewife point of view.

  • Others who once lived in East Africa some time ago say they read this blog because it brings back memories - I would like to hear more of these stories.

  • Perhaps you are reintegrating after an expat experience and finding it hard (can't imagine what that's like myself? Would love to know!).

N.b. taking part in the forum does not require you to be any of the below:

a) in Africa

b) female

c) an expat

Please do take part if you feel like it - that way it becomes a bit of fun!

I am not in the least bit technical or computer minded but have somehow I have managed to set up a forum already (in 3 easy steps - a bit like setting up this blog). You will have to be patient with me for a while and maybe check the site later in the week when it is properly up and running.

the address? http://africaexpatwivesclub.forumotion.com/

Let's see what happens ...

Great idea!! Not to be a spoil sport, but have you looked at Ning (www.ning.com)? You can create your own social network using Ning. Easy to setup, u can link to blogs, people can upload pictures, etc.

I love this idea and have been thinking about creating something similar, an east african craigslist website. maybe we can combine both.

in the meantime, i was wondering if you could recommend a good hairdresser in nairobi that can do wazungu hair, especially blonde highlights? i don't know where to find any info on this, but figured the africa expat wives community might have some ideas :) i am in nairobi now and want to get my hair done in the next few days. any ideas?!

  4. For highlights try Salon Malibu, up at the top of the Village Market shopping centre. N.b. the process takes from 2.5-3 hours! But the result is subtle and natural looking.

Owned by Mark and Debbie, both great hairdressers. V. good highlights, the only down side is that they are normally v. booked up - but u might be lucky as things are fairly quiet at the moment.

Alternatively, try Out of Town hairdressers in Karen? I am not a real expert and often shop about.

it was such a relief to find this blog while searching for a good salon for hair cut and hair coloring here in Nairobi. its been two months since i am here and i already feel bored.Anyway i'll be joining the university soon for my final year university of London's exams. Anyway can you suggest me a good salon for haircut, color and highlights?
or is salon malibu still the best option?
